i hardly use my blog as a wish list. i tend not to want many things and when i do, i have a habit of forgetting them unless i succumb to my desire instantly. my way of being is very much in the moment and i tend to harbor fairly few plans for the future which is obvious in my inability to think about, for example, fashion of the coming seasons. hence, creating lists of fleeting wants or needs seems rather futile and artificial.
i live in the now.
sometimes i surprise myself, though. that is, i give into uttering a wish. sometimes i am surprised by loved ones who read my wishes and follow them.
this time i voiced my wish at another location. and it still actualized on our third anniversary.
my token of love.

dinky bling.
i have an issue with women's watches. overall, to me, they just look dinky.
whether they are quality pieces of craftsmanship or basic wrist adornments, their minute size bothers me more than basic trinkets' because of the additional functionality. i know i follow a strange logic: little useless ornaments are ok as long as they're just trivial. add function and i think they're just annoying. boggles the mind.
the failure comes down to a lack of contrast, i have come to believe: they're too small for creating the delicate look that they are supposed to achieve. i am simple like that: big accentuates small, small brings out the large. i guess i haven't reached a more complex level of analysis, yet.
if it was about my wrists being thick i could understand the logic of feeling that dinky little things bring out something i wish to diminish. given i felt that thick wrists were something i would like to play down. not sure about that, though. but perhaps. nonetheless, mine are actually not, quite the opposite. therefore and nevertheless, you have seen me sporting a men's watch that accentuates my small wrist with its bulkiness. the watch is quite a few years old, from tag heuer and still one of my favorite accessories.
here, as with everything else in my style, the opposition of masculine and feminine is a precondition i treasure. i am quite sure many people find my bulky timepiece unnecessarily large and protruding – making the point slightly too obvious "see, i've got a small wrist, hello!"
but that's just me: underlining the obvious as always.
then, about two years ago i bought something very unlike myself.
first, it is golden.
second, it is small.
third, it is women's.

what made it mine was the sheer ugliness of the wrist adornment: old casio remake from the 80's was just enough of tacky to help me overcome the dinkiness of it.
i have worn it five times in total. not solely because it's small, but because it's golden. i do silver.
illogical.
the thing is, i love it. i do.

neighborhood recommendation #11: second-hand.

there are average second-hand stores where careful eyes can surface excellent finds in the midst of trash. then there are small vintage boutiques with discreetly selected individual pieces. consignment stores are located somewhere in between and may be extremely classy depending on the selection criteria or just plain junk if anyone can hoist their surplus gear for sale.
the new consignment second-hand market kaivarin kanuuna operates like any self-service consignment: you rent a table and a rack for a week, label your own goods and leave them be until the week is over. much of the product on sale is junk, but there is a reason i am recommending the place.
it seems someone has somehow persuaded local eira society ladies or some other collectors to surrender some of their closet fillers for sale. there are a few rooms filled with vintage dresses, hats, purses, and jewelry – some are amazing quality, even bespoke, and some just perfect examples of a fashion era gone by.i did not buy the yellow satin blouse from the 80's because the silky feel was ruined by the "100% polyester" tag, but i did find something amazing that i'll present to you the first moment i'm able to get some decent shots of it...
the space is large and labyrinthy, but the racks with gems are easily distinguishable. with display possibilities such as the one below, it is surely worth paying a visit. and if you've got something to sell, it may be just the place.

heatwave.
since every day is not an urban beach bum day, i need a respectable look as well. silk is easy and light and as a short dress carries from day till night.
i am not usually a fan of filippa k, but this silk number with ink splashes that resemble a birch camoflage struck me as the perfect dress for both summer and winter. add my office chimera sandal/boots and i'm ready to stroll the streets endlessly.

i also felt like wearing a necklace. not big on accessories and, especially, not exactly excited about pearls, i find this silver and pearl hand by kiwi karen walker beautiful, sensitive and fresh. it's a less rough version of the hand in daniel palillo and lauri johansson collaboration.

enjoy the heat! now i need to get dressed for a wedding...

graceful goth.
i have been wanting to write a post about delfina delettrez for months now, but i was unable to find a picture of the piece that moved me in the first place. until now.

a version of this boney hand brooch was available at colette but is sold out. the macabre beauty of it in some magazine caught my eye and i instantly knew there was something going on with this young girl. the same collection holds her almost bionic sceleton hand jewelry, available also at luisaviaroma and probably one of the most stunning pieces of jewelry i've seen in a while. no, wait, ever.
delettrez is 21 years old, daughter of silvia venturini fendi, and already known for collections celebrating nature and human anatomy with a ghoulish glamour twist. while i am always drawn to skulls, i don't particularly like her frogs, snakes, spiders and such, but the intricate beauty of her artwork is truly admirable.
cheap(er) copies sure to follow.

i heart studs.
i've been immersed in work these past two days to stay within my deadlines. i've been writing copy and quite honestly typos just swoosh past my eyes and i seem to be losing track with reality. nevertheless, i felt guilty taking a couple of hours off for a proper lunch and some errands. i quickly ran through some stores and decided to buy nothing even though i feel i've definitely earned myself a treat.
the reason for my asceticism is self-explanatory: tomorrow i'm off to london for five days and my plan is to steer clear of (almost) everything work-related for the entirety of the trip.
but... i saw this beautiful clutch bag: swirling suede and studs galore! the bag is a piece of jewelry in itself i am sure to cherish for a really long time. it seems zara just never fails me, and with a price tag of less than 100€, i just had to give in.

the rest of my cash will stay put until i reach london. promise.

five days of work, one whole day to play...
saturday, saturday, saturday, it was a saturday...
i spent last week organizing my mom's 70th bday which meant browsing cookbooks, searching for fresh ingredients, prepping and baking. on friday night a car packed with people, dogs and food changed location towards the west coast. on saturday everything was in order, the cake (among other delishes) was ready and we had a pleasant event amongst closest family and friends.
but there were other parties needing our attendance and attention.
guess opened a new store at kamppi shopping centre, and we paid a brief visit. my last guess experience was rather uninspiring: a suffocatingly packed lux club with warm flutes of cheap sweet sparkling did not impress. fortunately, this time around the sparkling was cold, dry and there was plenty going around.
while rare individual garments from guess could find their place in my closet, most of the stuff is way too trashy for my taste. i have always liked their sultry advertisements, but quite honestly, the tanorexic, cheap hair extension ornamented crowd of hoochie mama chicks was worse than i expected: it seems trailer trash look is something quite a few local guess aficionados aspire to...
off to tavastia we went to the vip party of adidas 60 years of soles and stripes. the decor was well put together from the blue lit entrance to the jackets hanging from the rails. again an environment i don't feel entirely at home in: sportswear ain't my thang and it's been a while since i skateboarded and listened to hip hop. i did try my best to look the part and i wore my originals' shell from 2004. more importantly i enjoyed the bar and the skateboarding, but was rather unimpressed by the hip hop acts on stage after the doors opened for public. not my scene... anymore, that is.
i did meet a bona fide style goddess of the night, though. this girl had a huge "cc" chanel logo made out of legos hanging from her neck: ultimate cool! you go girl!

we continued to a surprise bday party of a friend and sacrificed my white tank top to dionysian pleasures of the red kind. this song kept playing in my head, like it used to in my days of de la soul...

sabina kasper.

swedish jewelry designer sabina kasper makes punky, attitude laden pieces out of silver, gold, pearls and safety pins. and velour and silk thread. and paint.
she displays an ability to lift conservative materials, such as pearls, up to another, street credible level and her courage with color usage shows a sense of humor and laissez-fare attitude often not associated with fine jewelry.

her designs are available at colette and black market in stockholm.

alkemie.

inspired by honey junkie's post on jewelry and realizing there are others with similar taste when it comes to body adornment, i want to introduce a brand i like: alkemie. all their jewelry is made of 100% reclaimed metals and they only use leather produced at cattle ranches which use 100% of the animal.
normally i prefer grey metals to brown ones, but i really like the cuff below.

alkemie is available online at shopbop (right now with extra 20% on all sale items. that's worth paying for the additional customs charges, me thinks.)
